Demon Drive

I saw a poster a couple of weeks ago at the Allunan Symfonny Studio in Sunway when I went there to hang out with The Pips while they were jamming. The poster reads Drum Workshop 6 March RM8 1pm. I was excited to join so I did and had Hana to tag along. I really missed to see that it was Metal Drum Workshop. The word Metal was too small.. However, it really did turned out great. In fact better than what I had expected.

We arrived at 1.30p.m and we thought we were late but Kia (the caretaker of the place) told us the workshop will only start at 3pm. So we went to eat at a very special place in Sunway. The place is called Gerai Pojok. It has the awesomest Tempe Penyet in town! This meal is originated from Indonesia. For RM3.50, you'll get a plate of rice and 3 huge pieces of tempe (fermented soy) coated with flour, chopped leeks, some chilli and spices - deep fried. Plus a few raw vegetables - cabbage, long bean and cucumber. The special ingredient to this meal is the sambal belacan gravy that came with it. All this was served on a clay saucer. Classic for Indonesian to have this at home to grind spices and sambal belacan chilli gravy. If you order tempe penyer, you must order Extra Joss as this drink compliment the spiciness from the gravy. It is sort of an energy drink mixed with milk? I'm not too sure the ingredient. It comes in tall glasses. This energy booster set of meal is very popular amongst the Indonesian workers around the area. This place was introduced to me when I hanged out at Sunway house last year. Everyone who comes to this area MUST try tempe penyet and Extra Joss! For vegan and vegetarians, you can skip the gravy because it is made out of fermented prawn but you can substitute it with the sweet soy sauce that tastes very-very creamy rich and some cut chilli to get the same umpphh. Yummmmm!

The workshop started with Kia giving intro of the basic stuff. Metronome to blast beat to how to hold the stick. There were 4 presenters for the workshop. Each one covered specific topics. Techniques, triggering device for drums, progressive metal style, and recommended double paddle brands. The first workshop happened in Penang last year. There were about 20 people in the Heaven studio. Most are metal heads. We were the only two girl participants. The session was so cool and not intimidating at all for beginners like myself. We really had fun.

So what is up with Demon Drive? This is a very good brand for double paddle. It was highly recommended by one of the presenter. I had a taste of grinding away with this double paddle. Best gila! Adrenaline rush....! Drumming is like playing in the circus. So many movement, intense and wild. Tak puas lah main double paddle. It sounded like the war.. bullets everywhere.... the endless energy. Argggghhhh! This was way better than the gig happening at Noisy with the MOSSURAYA last night(haha nak sedapkan hati)
